Here are a few things that we currently do in our school to be a bit more green.
The Green Committee sells Lunch Skins, https://www.lunchskins.com, at wholesale prices in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic bags being used in the school. 4$ for snack size and 5$ for sandwich size.
We have a collection area at the front of the school which includes:
- Printer cartridges, cell phones, PDA’s, video games and consoles, DVDs, calculators, GPS devices, tablets/e-readers through Cartridges for Kids, http://www.cartridgesforkids.com
- Sharpies and Papermate pens through Terracycle, http://www.terracycle.com/en-US/
- Eye glasses
- Plastic shopping bags
- Check PTA emails/signs/kid mail for other collections throughout the year
We organize the lunchroom helper volunteer schedule. Lunch time volunteers help with salad bar and guiding and teaching children about proper waste management which includes recycling, composting and waste. Volunteers for all grades are needed!
We make recommendations to our classes on what good practices are for publishing parties. Click here to see our recommended guidelines.
